Thanks for this thoughtful essay. I would suggest an additional thing to think about: The essay speaks of the “boundary” between animals and our species and that CV19 jumped that boundary.
I would argue that there are no hard boundaries whatsoever in the Biosphere. There are many frontiers (that we often don’t understand), but not boundaries as such. CV19 reminds us of this basic truth.
The best image that I can come up is the (mythical?) “event horizon” in black holes.
