The Depraved, Moral Gymnastics of Liberal Zionists

This is the former speechwriter for Barrack Obama, Sarah Hurwitz, at the Jewish Federation of North America General Assembly this past Sunday. She made some rather provocative remarks there regarding the “disconnect” between younger and older Jews in relation to Israel’s genocide in Gaza. I would like to respond to those remarks directly.

Sarah- “I think since Oct 7, and even before, there have been huge shifts in America on how people think about Jews and Israel and I think that is especially true of young people. So, we are now wrestling with a new generational divide here. And I think that is particularly true in that social media is now our source for media.”

“And it used to be the media you got in America was American media and it was pretty mainstream. You know, it generally didn’t express extreme anti-Israel views. You had to go to a pretty weird bookstore to find global media and fringe media. But today we have social media, which is a global medium. Its algorithms are shaped by billions of people worldwide who don’t really love Jews.”

“So, while in the 1990s, a young person probably wasn’t going to find Al Jazeera or someone like Nick Fuentes, today those media outlets find them. They find them on their phones. It’s also this increasingly post-literate media, less and less text, more and more videos.”

Me- Let me get this straight, Sarah. You are saying that Al Jazeera and Nick Fuentes are ideologically the same? Nick Fuentes, who openly praises Hitler? And what “weird bookstore” are you referencing? Left leaning ones who sold books with Palestinian voices and perspectives? And are you saying that mainstream media once told a single narrative which was all pro-Israel? On this last one, I would agree wholeheartedly. Seldom were Palestinian voices heard in legacy media. But, unlike you, I wouldn’t call that balanced journalism.

Sarah- “You have TikTok just bashing our young people’s brains all day long with video of carnage in Gaza. And this is why many of us can’t have a sane conversation with younger Jews, because anything we try to say to them they’re hearing through this wall of carnage. So, I want to get data and information and facts and arguments and they are just seeing in their minds carnage and I sound obscene.”

Me- Oh, Sarah. You poor thing. You are having a really tough time explaining away the racist nature of the Zionist project, decades of ethnic cleansing and apartheid policies, and US support for all of it because of a “wall of carnage.” How terribly inconvenient for you. As your friend Van Jones quipped: these young people are seeing all those “dead Gaza babies” scroll by on their newsfeed. And they are appalled by it. How rude of the Palestinians to post about their annihilation. And how silly of these young Jews to be moved by such images and videos.

Hate to break it to you, Sarah. But you are obscene.

Sarah- “And you know, I think, unfortunately, the very smart bet we made on Holocaust education to serve as antisemitism education, in this new media environment, I think that is beginning to break down a little bit. Holocaust education is absolutely essential, but I think it may be confusing some of our young people about antisemitism, because they learn about big, strong Nazis hurting weak, emaciated youngsters and they think antisemitism is like anti-black racism, powerful white people against powerless black people.”

“So, when on TikTok all day long they see powerful Israelis hurting weak, skinny Palestinians, it’s not surprising they think, Oh, I know, the lesson of the Holocaust is that you fight Israel, you fight the big powerful people, hurting the weak people.”

Me- My God, Sarah. Where to begin with this one? Are you saying Holocaust education was only about combating antisemitism? It isn’t a lesson on the evil of scapegoating? Dehumanization? Genocide? And that these lessons apply to any marginalized or oppressed people? As someone who has spent a lifetime studying the Holocaust, how did I miss the lesson that it only applied to Jewish people and should be used to defend an ethnostate committing atrocities?

Sarah, normal human beings are appalled by cruelty and sadism. Normal people are repulsed by atrocities and brutality. And they understand that it is wrong for powerful people to violently crush and wipe out weaker people.

Sarah- “The problem is, we’re not just a religion. We’re a nation. Civilization. Tribe. Peoplehood. But most of all we’re a family. And so if you are a young person raised in America who thinks Judaism is a Protestant-style religion, then the seven million Jews in Israel are merely your co-religionists. So, my co-religionists, if I look at them and they’re not practicing my religion of social justice and certain prophetic values then what do I have to do with them?”

“But that’s a category error. The seven million people in Israel, they are not my co-religionists, they are my siblings. But I think if you think of them as merely your co-religionists, it’s easy to slide into anti-Zionism. You don’t necessarily have that connection to them.”

Me- Sarah, if your siblings were murdering children, would you be okay with that? Would you not even say one word in objection? This is not just a dysfunctional family. What you just described isn’t a “family” at all. It is a cult. A death cult, to be more exact.

What a pity, Sarah. You cannot stand atop a mountain of corpses and defend what your “family” is doing any more without push back from young Jews around the world. And the whitewashing spin the legacy media used to employ no longer works.

Sarah, you made opposition to this genocide even more imperative, moral and clear. And for that, I thank you.

Trump is a Liar, but he is the Embodiment of the Ruling Class

While speaking before the brutal King of Saudi Arabia, US president Trump said:

“But we also wanna thank all the people living in Gaza, the residents of Gaza. They, as you know, have begun to move back to their homes. A lot more safety, they say, than they ever had before.”

Gaza has been reduced to rubble from 2+ years of Israeli carpet bombing and demolition. Most of it is uninhabitable. A mass grave with thousands of bodies still under the ruins of their homes. Most are living in tents now, and much of Gaza has faced flooding. And the genocide hasn’t stopped. Israel is still carrying out bombings and mass starvation, with assistance from the US and other Western allies, despite the so-called ceasefire.

But Trump’s lies are always grandiose and fatuous. Designed to overwhelm norms of decency in human interactions. And to undermine the importance of truth telling for social cohesion. This is classic narcissist behaviour, and it is eroding the bonds that keep a society together and functional.

The lies he has told about his relationship to Jeffrey Epstein are an example of this pathology. To the narcissist, it doesn’t matter if lies are exposed. All that matters is if he or she can weave another web of dishonesty and distraction in time to escape the consequences of the previous ones.

This kind of mendacity is staggering to most people because it flies in the face of everything we understand to be normal in human interactions. But the narcissist doesn’t live in this world. They live in a universe where manipulation, grift and deception are legitimate tools for increasing their social control, wealth accumulation and power. Attention, whether negative or positive, is paramount.

Modern American society was fueled by the lies of such narcissists and their sycophants. Primarily by white men who constructed and curated a Machiavellian playbook for obtaining and maintaining power and wealth. They successfully convinced a huge swath of the population that wealth accumulation, hoarding and ostentatious displays are virtuous. This is a class that enjoys extraordinary impunity for their crimes. Few of them ever see a jail cell for such things as theft of wages, labour abuses, sexual exploitation, discrimination or environmental destruction.

Trump is the most glaring example of this. He became president despite a litany of crimes, from fraud to rape. He has enriched himself by peddling valueless coins and pandering to anyone who will give him a lavish gift or shiny award. He is not an aberration. Although he is crass, unsophisticated and vulgar, he is also the grotesque embodiment of the ruling elite in America stripped of all of its pretension.

And he will likely avoid any meaningful consequences for this current scandal. Do not be surprised if names are redacted and swaths of documents are censored because of “national security.” Pam Bondi and her legal team are probably burning the midnight oil to come up with any excuse available to them.

It would be naive and foolish to think that US will do the right thing in regard to the Epstein scandal. The arrangement of power that exists today, and that includes both sides of the political aisle, is incapable of tackling the malfeasance within its own ranks. As I have said before, a nation that has funded and assisted a genocide for two years, the very worst crime against humanity, can easily ignore or whitewash crimes against the most vulnerable among us. Especially when those crimes were mostly committed by wealthy white men.

So, what do we do? Aside from feeling a natural sense of despair, there are some things we can do that are vitally important as human beings. We can and should bear witness. To speak boldly. Speak out against horrendous crimes like genocide. To not buy into the pervasive lie that wealth equates virtue or superiority. To reject any conspiracy theory or idea that demonize, scapegoat or punch down on the marginalized or most vulnerable in society, whether they be immigrants, the transgender community or the unhoused. To support political leaders who espouse our values, without being naive as to their limitations, flaws and the deep rot of the system. Be persuaded by good policies, not charismatic personalities. But, most importantly, to connect with one another in community and learn how to address our own needs by building mutual aid and networks of cooperation.

No one is coming to save us, least of all the wealthy and powerful who run the show. We are the ones we have been waiting for.

Samantha Power and the Corruption of the American Liberal Elite

It should not come as a surprise that the West has used the protection of human rights as a cover for its ongoing imperial project for decades in the Global South. And it has relied on a cadre of liberal apologists to provide justification for its aggression. Case in point, Samantha Power, the former U.S. ambassador to the UN under the Obama administration.

Power liked to portray herself as a champion of human rights. She skyrocketed to fame for her book “America and the Age of Genocide,” where she lambasted the Clinton administration for downplaying and ignoring the Rwandan genocide. But her role as the director of USAID under Joe Biden and during Israel’s genocide in Gaza has revealed her for the grifting ghoul she actually is.

Despite backlash from her staff, she refused to condemn Israel’s horrendous siege on the open air concentration camp that is Gaza. Even as entire families were erased. Even as images of blown up or bloated children flooded newsfeeds. Even as evidence mounted of Israeli war crimes. Power refused to call for a ceasefire. Instead, she parroted Israeli state lies which sought to justify the total destruction and mass starvation policies of the Zionist state.

After leaving USAID, Power seemed to want to whitewash her role in the genocide by lamenting: “I wish we could have ended the war in Gaza far sooner… and done more to end this hell that the people of Gaza have experienced.” But Power did not seem to have any such misgivings when she actually had influence over US policy.

None of this is new for the “human rights superstar.” A series of leaked files revealed recently that Power was colluding with Israeli diplomats to polish the apartheid, now genocidal, state’s global image and help them gain access to coveted UN committees as far back as 2013.

A correspondence between Power and Israeli ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor, in November of that year revealed how the US ambassador assisted Israel’s admittance to the UN’s Western European and Others Group (WEOG). This helped Israel gain diplomatic cover while glossing over its egregious human rights record at the time.

Power was rewarded for her efforts with high paid speaking engagements. She would go on to scold the UN for its “anti-Israel” bias, while making no mention of its horrendous treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied territories, or its belligerent posture toward its neighbours in the region. Instead, she relied on questionable intelligence from the apartheid state to saber rattle on its behalf. And during the murderous rampage on Gaza in 2014, Power ran diplomatic cover for Israel as it slaughtered over 2000 civilians.

In 2016, Power, asked the Russians if they had any “shame” regarding their bombing campaign of East Aleppo, Syria. And this revealed her staggering hypocrisy. Russia deserved to be condemned for its military forays, but Power never condemned the US for its destruction of Iraq or Libya. And she never condemned its ally, Israel, for its ongoing project of annihilation of the Palestinians.

Indeed, Power’s service to American Empire, under the guise of humanitarianism, was lauded. That same year, she accepted the American Academy of Berlin’s Henry A. Kissinger Prize. And she was handed the blood-soaked award from none other than the murderous monster himself. Despite her damning criticisms of Kissinger in her books “A Problem From Hell: America and the Age of Genocide” and “Sergio: One Man’s Fight to Save the World,” she was able to overlook his crimes and the mountain of corpses he stood atop for the shiny statuette.

Power is a visual aid to the duplicity and corruption of the American liberal elite, whose values always crumble under the weight of their fealty to the American imperial project. She is an emblem of the cruel and mendacious excuse it uses for every one of its wars or covert operations: “humanitarian intervention.” And for that, she has been handsomely rewarded.

The Striking Irony of Zionist Outrage over ‘Miss Palestine’

Apparently, carrying out and defending a genocide isn’t enough for some people. Case in point, the Miss Universe contest being held in Thailand.

Zionists are accusing Nadeen Ayoub (Miss Palestine) of not being Palestinian. It’s kind of funny, since they spend half of their time denying Palestinians exist, to saying someone isn’t Palestinian enough.

Ayoub was born in Michigan, but her parents are Palestinian. She grew up in Ramallah in the Occupied West Bank. And she did study in Canada where she earned a BA in Psychology and Literature. She is the first “Miss Palestine” in the pageant’s history. Melanie Shiraz (Miss Israel) although born in Tel Aviv, lived most of her life in the US (Florida and California) until just before October 7th 2023.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were violently expelled from their homeland during the Nakba. So, being born there was not an option for millions of Palestinians due to ethnic cleansing, Israel’s violation of international law in the “right of return” for refugees and decades of apartheid policies.

But the irony of all of this is that the people spreading these lies about Ayoub don’t seem to have a problem that the “founding father” of Israel, David Ben-Gurion, who was born David Grün in Płońsk, Congress Poland, Russian Empire in 1886. Or that their beloved Golda Meir was born Golda Mabovitch in Kiev, Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire in 1898, and grew up in Milwaukee. Or that huge swaths of Israeli society originally came from somewhere other than what is now Israel.

In fact, the “Jewish Nation-State Law” defines Israel as the national home of the Jewish people and grants the right to national self-determination exclusively to Jews, effectively marginalizing Palestinian citizens of Israel, even if they were born there and even if their ancestors go back centuries. And Jewish people are allowed to come to Israel from anywhere in the world, and they are granted citizenship regardless of where they were born or if they have any ties to the land, other than religious ones. It is called “Aliyah.”

This is the nature of racist ideologies. Stealing land, destroying villages and farmland, and killing hundreds of thousands of people in Palestine wasn’t enough. Their very existence must be erased from the public record.

But regardless of their crass efforts, Ayoub seems to rise above it all.

“We are more than our suffering. We are women and people with dreams, creativity, talents, and we just want a chance to offer that to the world,” Ayoub said.

“I want the world to see that Palestinians are more than just their struggles and their suffering and their pain,” adding, “Palestinians, we have a lot of dignity.”

“My biggest pain, honestly, is the suppression of the identity and beauty. It’s not just what we see in the headlines, not just the suffering. We’re so much more,” Ayoub said. “We’re beautiful, we love life, we just want a chance to show you that life.”

Sexual Violence and the Colonial Project

Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi (left photo) was the Israeli army’s top lawyer. She briefly disappeared, but was later found on a beach in Tel Aviv. Now she is behind bars. Her crime? She approved the leak of a surveillance video that showed the rape of a Palestinian detainee by Israeli soldiers at the notorious Sde Teiman military prison.

After she was found, far right TV personality Yinon Magal, an ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, posted on X with a winking-face emoji: “We can resume the lynch.”

The soldiers who assaulted the Palestinian prisoner allegedly sodomized him with a knife. A medical staffer said, on condition of anonymity out of fear for his safety, that the victim had life-threatening injuries from blunt trauma to the abdomen and the chest and fractured ribs. He had to undergo emergency surgery for a perforated rectum. The victim was returned days later to the prison where he was assaulted.

There were protests in Israel, but not to decry what those soldiers did. They were to defend them. They were enraged by the arrest and prosecution of the soldiers. Several members of the Knesset joined in these demonstrations, which often became violent.

The prime suspect at the centre of this heinous crime is soldier Meir Ben-Shitrit (pictured on the right). But instead of being vigorously questioned by journalists, he has been celebrated by Israeli media, doing a plethora of softball television interviews where he and the other suspects are treated as the real victims.

Recently, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel, released a report on systematic Israeli sexual violence against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank since 7 October 2023.

The report, entitled “More than a Human Can Bear”, provides such incontrovertible evidence of Israeli crimes that “[t]here is no escape from the conclusion that Israel has employed sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinians to terrorize them and perpetuate a system of oppression that undermines their right to self-determination.”

None of this is new. Israel has long used rape and sexual abuse as a weapon or form of collective punishment, as documented by Israeli human rights organizations. Yet this is rarely reported on in the Western press.

Instead, they run stories of “mass rape” on October 7th, along with blatant lies about “decapitated babies,” without ever providing a shred of evidence. Even former US president Joe Biden repeated these lies, saying he saw the photos. The White House later denied the president saw any such photographs. Thus far, not one Israeli woman has stepped forward to allege rape on October 7th.

None of this is to claim that no sexual violence occurred on that day. It is simply to point out that no evidence has been presented by Israel thus far. While there is ample evidence that attests to Palestinians, including child detainees, suffering from abuse.

Colonial projects have long used sexual violence to suppress and demoralize the populations they wished to subjugate. But in tandem with this was a racist claim that the colonized men presented a threat to white women and their purity.

Black men and boys in North America were routinely brutalized, tortured and killed for even the mere hint of sexual impropriety with white women. The tragic and horrifying case of Emmett Till is a testament to those dark times.

Israel is no different in this regard. Anti-miscegenation sentiment has been a pernicious thread through Israeli society since 1948. Even today, Israeli (and some Western political leaders) openly talk about the supposed “demographic danger” of mixed marriages.

Israel is not uniquely racist. It merely echoes the European colonial settler “civilized vs savage” narrative. Politicians like Netanyahu unashamedly repeat this myth by calling their state a “villa in a jungle.” The obvious implication being that Arab cultures and societies are barbaric and backwards.

This latest chapter is a bleak one in the long history of the Zionist project, with genocide being the natural culmination of the supremacist ideology. But it provides us insight into how movements subvert the truth and human decency to advance a mythology of dominance over those it subjugates.

An All American Genocide

One of the most popular myths of our time is that Israel controls the United States. This can be seen among many circles, both on the right and the left. This erroneous notion is the result of several factors. I will address two of them here.

The first is the romanization of America itself. Most Americans do not see themselves as subjects of the most powerful empire on the planet. On the contrary, they like to see themselves citizens of a democracy. But this falls apart easily with a simple look at polling.

Most Americans do not want the US to give Israel billions of dollars in funds each year. Most oppose what Israel is doing to the Palestinians. Most would like that money spent domestically on things like healthcare or education. Yet, the vast majority of American political representatives on both sides of the aisle widely ignore these desires. Both ruling parties have pledged their support to the Empire and its assets. This is because American Imperialism is a bipartisan affair.

Another byproduct of this delusion is that so many Americans have been conditioned to ignore or absolve the copious crimes committed by its soldiers and military sector abroad on behalf of American and international businesses. The delusion that the United States operates from a place of benevolent power has been largely internalized by most Americans.

That the US has 800+ military bases around the world and that this is rarely questioned or even discussed by most American politicians or the mainstream media is telling. Somehow, this is justified as “protecting American interests.” Of course, those interests also happen to align with that of American capital and the investments of the international billionaire class.

When troops are deployed it is almost always depicted as a “reluctant, yet necessary” action to guard the US from would be enemies. The fact that these supposed “enemies” live in impoverished nations that happen to be rich with natural resources is barely a footnote in the national mainstream discourse.

The second has more to do with antisemitism and its pernicious influence on the American mindset. An old bigoted trope is the belief that Jews control the planet. That they have near supernatural powers in manipulating government officials and policy. The idea that a tiny nation-state in the Middle East controls the wealthiest and most powerful imperial force in the world is demonstrably ludicrous upon close inspection. But this idea has its roots in a centuries old bigotry.

This is not to say that Zionist lobbies like AIPAC or the ADL do not have significant sway over politicians. They do. But both of those organizations are American. And there are far more Christian Zionists in the US than Jewish Zionists.

These American evangelicals, who view Israel as essential to the fulfilment of their apocalyptic eschatological prophecies, have enormous sway over US policy. To focus solely on the influence of these organizations is to ignore how American Empire uses ethnic and religious differences to its own advantage. This is how it has operated since its inception.

There were no Israelis in North America when the Indigenous population was ethnically cleansed and nearly wiped out by genocide. There were no Israelis in North America when Black Africans were enslaved for over 400 years. There were no Israelis involved in the US conquest of the Kingdom of Hawaii, or the brutal occupation of the Philippines, or the nuking of civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Expansion, exploitation, racism, genocide, enslavement, destabilization of nations, toppling of democratically elected governments, assassinations, coups. All of them are as American as apple pie. They were encoded into the very DNA of the America project since day one. But an infantile sentimentalization of American history has managed to sponge this away from much of the American public’s consciousness.

One of the easiest ways to understand Israel is to see it as an American military base that protects its geopolitical and capital interests in the Middle-East. Almost all of its citizens must serve in the military, with some religious exemptions. What this has done is create a culture of militarism which thrives on paranoia, perpetual victimhood and the myth of supremacy.

It has also reinforced the impunity so many Israelis have enjoyed and think they are entitled to, even after proudly posting their crimes online. Israeli politicians and media have openly expressed their genocidal intentions and plans. For decades, Israelis have gotten away with their crimes thanks to the protection and support of the most powerful empire on the planet.

A big part of this has to do with the lie that the US cares about Jewish people or is fighting antisemitism. And Hollywood has played an enormous role in this storyline. It has consistently worked with US military and CIA operatives to push the myth of a “clash of civilizations.” Nakedly racist shows like Homeland and movies like Zero Dark Thirty use propaganda to normalize Islamophobia and American imperial violence in the Global South.

The nation that turned Jews away during the Holocaust has never cared about their welfare. They are a tool to advance its power on the world stage under the guise of a “noble, humanitarian cause.” But the lie is beginning to fall apart as more and more people see the Trump regime downplay real antisemitism, conflate Judaism with the political ideology of Zionism, and attack Jews who oppose Zionism and Israel’s murderous genocide.

Israel is the American Empire’s most important colonial asset. And this asset has maintained its relevance by supplying the Empire, as well as many other governments, its advanced security and surveillance technology. Technology that has been lab tested over many years on the Palestinians.

This is why Palestine is the most pressing moral question of our age. If the powerful get away with what they have done to Gaza, they will surely do it again anywhere and against anyone that stands in the way of their profit and control. A recent look at the bloodstained earth in Sudan is an example of this.

It should be abundantly clear that the horrendous genocide that Israel is carrying out against the Palestinians could not have happened were it not for American money, weapons and diplomatic cover. In fact, Israel, in its current form, would not exist were it not for American money, weapons and diplomatic cover.

This is the flex of American colonial power, upgraded for the age of late capitalism. But the monster that the US created is beginning to unravel under the weight of its own unhinged delusions, paranoia, racism and blatant brutality. The American led project that was meant to legitimize colonialism for the modern era is rapidly disintegrating. The public are simply not buying the lies as easily as they once did. And for that, we need to thank Israel itself. It has proven to be its own worst enemy.

So, while the apartheid state of Israel is indeed committing genocide, to look at this only through that narrow lens misses the big picture. American Empire, even though it is in steep decline, is the man behind the curtain. It, along with other Western aligned powers and the global wealthy elite class, are behind every bullet, every drone, every bomb.

Every destroyed hospital, bakery, school, apartment building, farm was destroyed by both Israel and its benefactor, the American Empire. Every family buried under the rubble of their home was torn apart by Israel and its colonial benefactor, the American Empire. Every child shot at, starved or blown up, was a victim of Israel and its colonial benefactor, the American Empire. In every sense, this is an all-American genocide.

Debra Messing and Liberal Zionism’s Inevitable Drift Toward Fascism

There have been so many spectacular crash outs before and since Mamdani won NYC. But the most intriguing has to be Debra Messing. The former Will & Grace star posted endlessly to her Instagram yesterday. But Messing, who supported Hillary Clinton and has always identified herself as liberal, was sharing content from far right organizations like CPAC, Breitbart, and Newsmax. In fact, she shared at least 100 posts to her Instagram story in one day alone.

Among those shared was a blatantly Islamophobic post which argued that while Judaism and Christianity encourage honesty, Muslims are “commanded to lie if it means spreading Islam.” It went on to say: “He’s revealing their goal: Mass conversion. These two opposing civilizations cannot coexist.” It doesn’t get much more paranoid, genocidal and racist than that, folks.

She even went so far as to share Trump’s antisemitic post in which he wrote: “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!” Mamdani has always condemned antisemitism. But none of that matters to Trump or to Messing, apparently.

Since October 7th, 2023, Messing has been on a rampage. Her support for Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians became her only identity, going so far as to visit the genocidal apartheid state for photo ops with IDF soldiers.

Messing is a case study in the limitations of white feminism. When ones privilege is challenged in any way, the default is often to go to reactionary, racist or even fascist tactics of fearmongering and scapegoating. Messing’s transformation proves that Zionism, like all supremacist ideologies, always leads a person to the far-right.

It has been reported that Messing is currently on holiday in Tel Aviv, apparently finding solace from the melee in Manhattan by being even closer to an actual genocide taking place mere kilometres away.

Barack Obama and the Parlance of Empire

The dehumanization of the Palestinians is something that comes natural to most Western leaders. And Barack Obama is no different in this regard.

Barack Obama knows full well that Israel committed genocide. He knows Gaza was obliterated by the Israeli military. He knows entire families were erased from the civil registry, yet he only mentions Israeli families. He knows that Israel decimated almost all of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure, leveled hospitals and killed scores of doctors and nurses. He knows Israel destroyed universities, grade schools and entire city blocks. He knows Israel deliberately starved the people of Gaza. To omit these facts is a staggering feat of dehumanization.

But he is doing what every centrist politician in the West has done for decades. He is trying make this situation seem like a dispute between equals. He is making this all about the Israeli hostages while purposefully omitting the great injustice that led to October 7th. He is pretending that this is over and that we should all be “encouraged and relieved” instead of being horrified and enraged. He is nullifying the monstrous crime that was committed by using the language of “conflict.” And that is an outright lie.

Israel is the occupier. Israel has ethnically cleansed historic Palestine. Israel blockaded Gaza long before October 7th, making it the world’s biggest, open-air concentration camp. Israel built an apartheid state over decades which culminated in genocide.

In addition to this, Obama is once again asserting American power on the people of Palestine whether they like it or not. To “rebuild Gaza” as if it were wiped out by a natural disaster. As if this was a tragedy and not official policy. Daring not to admit that it was Israel with the total support of the United States that destroyed it. And that is because of the unspoken truth.

Israel is the most important colonial asset of the United States. It has invested billions of dollars in it over many decades. It essentially serves as a US military base in the Middle-East.

Obama is often thought of as the pinnacle of American decency. A man who brought dignity to the White House. But he is really just another emperor in a long line of American emperors. Even when not in power, they continue to uphold the only acceptable narrative of American imperialism. And Obama is the most eloquent in the parlance of empire among them.

Kenn Orfanos, October 2025

Regarding the Recent Ceasefire Plan

I want to choose my words carefully because I understand the deep trauma that Israel and the United States has inflicted on millions of Palestinians. And not just for the last two years, but for decades.

It is because of that last sentence that I am cautious about celebrating a ceasefire and a plan for the end of this genocide when it comes from a fascist regime. And it is too early to tell if this will last, or if it is yet another distraction.

Certainly, other states (Qatar, Turkey, Egypt) were involved. But this is a US plan. And the American Empire, as it is in steep decline, can never be trusted. Everything it does is spectacle and farce. Its primary colonial asset and military base in the region is Israel. It has invested hundreds of billions of dollars in it. So, it will maintain it as long as the empire stands.

That said, if one Palestinan life is spared by this “agreement” I will rejoice. But I understand the dynamics and duplicity of empire too well to celebrate its supposed achievements.

Gaza has been completely obliterated. It is highly likely that hundreds of thousands have been slaughtered. It may never be habitable in the foreseeable future. And it isn’t clear who will pay the 80+ billion dollars to rebuild it.

To be sure, Israel will continue its colonial settler project in the occupied territories. The West Bank will be absorbed into the Zionist state, and Palestinians will be forced into bantustans on their ancestral lands. The illegal settlers will continue their pogroms protected by the IDF.

But Israel, like its colonial benefactor the United States, will never be accepted by the majority of the world again. Their myths of morality and greatness are forever sullied. The slow decay of the American Empire will ensure the eventual demise of its colonial assets.

They will try desperately to normalize every crime they’ve committed by buying the media and criminalizing dissent. But we have all seen too much. Their cynical game of baseless smears and propaganda is over, and all but the obtuse know this.

And one thing to celebrate is the Palestinians themselves. Their integrity in the face of genocide has never wavered. They’ve put our leaders and media, with all their racism, empty platitudes and hypocrisy, to shame. They’ve ripped the mask off of Western imperialism and smashed it to dust. Their humanity is unmatched. And for that, I am forever grateful.

Kenn Orfanos, October 2025

This was a Genocide from Day One

There are those who want us to still believe this is a war. But wars don’t look like this.

One side has an army, navy, air force, nuclear weapons and support and assistance from the most powerful nation on the planet. The other has either nothing, some stones, or occasionally a handful of imprecise rockets.

One side has one of the most wealthy economies in the region. The other lives virtually in poverty, has no control over its own economic sector, is prevented from certain economic ventures and is forced to use the currency of the other side.

One sides population can and has enjoyed going to the beach, to restaurants, to nightclubs, to school, to the theatre and on lavish cruises and trips abroad. The other lives in tents and struggles to find food and clean water to survive while avoiding indiscriminate airstrikes and bullets from snipers or drones or navigate a brutal system of apartheid imposed by the other side.

One side controls the freedom of movement for the vast population of the other. The other side face military checkpoints, walls, segregated roads, arbitrary detainment and interrogations every single day from the other side.

One side can settle almost anywhere in the country and even in legally recognized, occupied lands with the protection of the military, and they are still citizens with full rights simply for their religious affiliation, even if they weren’t born there. The other side is walled off from their ancestral lands, harassed daily by illegal settlers and subject to military raids and tribunals from the other.

One side controls the sea, land and airspace of the other.

One side controls the electricity, fuel, medicine, food, water and daily necessities of life of the other.

One side founded a nation on a land that had a people. The other side was ethnically cleansed and has suffered for decades because of that land theft and dispossession.

The obtuse, willfully ignorant and dishonest frame this as a war. But wars are fought between equals. Wars are equally costly for both parties. Wars see similar rates of casualties. Wars do not have one side controlling virtually every aspect of life of the other side.

No matter how many times they try to frame this as a war, the facts will always attest to this being a genocide carried out by an apartheid state from day one.
