Regardless of what Israel and its Supporters do now, the Jigs Up

It is no secret that the Trump regime in the United States seeks to crush any and all dissent. One of the tactics is endless litigation of media behemoths. The other is through the mere threat of litigation. The recent firing and rehiring of comedian Jimmy Kimmel attests to the latter. In that case, the threat failed. But the regime isn’t finished in its ongoing quest to transform American media into either toothless infotainment or an arm of fascist state propaganda.

The American media landscape is already dominated by a small group of wealthy companies. And conservative tech billionaires own social media. Despite this, there has been some measure of freedom of speech and expression, at least in regard to the minimal requirement for journalistic integrity.

But the US is inextricably linked to Israel, its most important colonial asset. And defending the genocidal state at all costs, even if it fractures its Maga base, has become one of the current regime’s primary objectives. Threatening litigation isn’t the only thing they have in their bag of tricks. Buying up all the means of communication and filling it with sycophants seems to be their latest plan. It is manufactured consent on steroids.

Case in point: wealthy Zionist Larry Ellison and his son David, have been busy buying up as many media platforms as they can. The cringe-inducing duo have longstanding ties to Israel and have vociferously defended its murderous attacks against the Palestinians from day one. Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, has been the biggest private donor to the IDF. Oracle itself is little more than an Israeli colonial apparatus with cultish devotion to the genocidal project. Now the father and son seek to eradicate all dissent by curtailing journalism and muzzling content creators and independent media.

David Ellison bought Paramount. Now he aims to turn the mammoth media outlet CBS into a mouthpiece for Israel. And he is giving the keys to Bari Weiss.

Ever the suck up to the uber-wealthy, Weiss started her lackluster career by going after professors who dared speak out about Palestine without consulting her. She went on to a hackneyed stint at the New York Times where she trotted out stale, bromidic pabulum about the supposed perils of “woke culture.” Essentially, regurgitating the grievances of far-right intellectual poseurs and blowhards like Jordan Peterson.

Weiss, who has used her virtually unknown platform “The Free Press” to spread the most vicious and mendacious apologia for genocide, will likely use CBS as a tool of Zionist propaganda. She has made no secret of the marriage of her devotion to the racist state and her “journalism.” Her holocaust apologetics have been seemingly endless, from pieces that deny the Israeli policy of starvation to blaming Palestinians for their suffering and murder.

With Weiss in tow, the Ellison’s are now planning the takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. According to the Wall Street Journal: the “bid will be for the entire company, including its cable networks and movie studio,” which includes “HBO Max” along with “CNN, TBS, and TNT.” It seems apparent that this whole genocide thing has made them all itchy, especially with public sentiment beginning to turn.

This is why wealthy Zionists have their sights set on social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, TikTok. They understand that the biggest threat to their hegemonic control of the narrative comes from ordinary people sounding the alarm. People who are not intimidated by legacy media and its complicity with fascism and genocide. If they succeed in taking over these platforms, they will rapidly censor or shadow ban any voice that challenges their approved storyline.

But regardless of these monied and high stakes plans and mergers, the jig is up for both Israel and the American Empire. No media putsch can alter their joint trajectories. Both entities are in a state of rot, chaos and marked decline. So, these attempts to seize the microphone appear more like acts of desperation than a hostile takeover. These media outlets are the vestiges of a dying era, with most of Gen Z ignoring them completely. And young people have found creative ways to utilize or subvert social media to their advantage.

No one can unsee the horror the Zionist state has and continues to mete out on a defenseless people imprisoned in the world’s largest, open-air concentration camp. No one can unhear the cries of little Hind as she sat in a car wounded and surrounded by her dead family as Israeli tanks closed in around her. No one can forget the nearly two year campaign of complete annihilation of Gaza.

And these media giants are powerless against the most damning aspect of this genocide: the egos of the genocidaires themselves. Most of the evidence has come from IDF soldiers who have proudly posted their crimes on social media. Or from the IDF commanders who have leveled nearly every hospital, school, mosque, bakery and farm in Gaza. Or Israeli media that has platformed openly genocidal voices. Or from Israeli politicians who talk openly about their hatred of every Palestinian, including children, labeling them all as “terrorists.” Or their intention to starve the captive population. Or their plans to “redevelop” Gaza for illegal settlement.

The Ellison family is one of the wealthiest on the planet. They may soon surpass Elon Musk in being the richest. But they haven’t been paying close attention to the reality that wealth does not beget popularity. Nor does it command people to listen to you. Musk is a prime example of this. The ketamine-addled Nazi has seen his status plummet in recent months. He has become a running joke and punchline. And none of his ill-gotten riches can alter the public perception of him being an unhinged buffoon.

Israel and the US are in a similar state. Both are seen as a pariah. Their image is tainted by genocidal mania, sadism and fascist nihilism. Their citizens are increasingly being shunned when they travel abroad and their allies are beginning to distance themselves from the embarrassment.

They may be able to shutdown dissent or stifle journalistic principles in major American media and even silence some content creators or independent platforms, but they cannot undo what has been done. They cannot sponge away the blood from their hands. The evidence is far too damning. The mountain of corpses is far too high. And we have all seen too much to ever let them forget any of it.

The D-List Celebrities Still Shilling for Genocide

Recently, more than 4,000 film industry workers — including Olivia Colman, Elliot Page, Javier Bardem, Aimee Lou Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Juliet Stevenson, Riz Ahmed, Ayo Edebiri, Tilda Swinton, Ava DuVernay, Adam McKay, Josh O’Connor, Brian Cox and Emma Stone — signed a pledge promising not to work with film institutions or governments that are “implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.”

The UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Physicians for Human Rights IsraelB’Tselem בצלםJewish Voice for Peace and most genocide scholars agree. It is now indisputable that Israel is guilty of the crime of genocide.

But like a chorus of braying donkeys, Liev Schreiber, Mayim Bialik, Debra Messing and a long list of holocaust deniers claimed this pledge was antisemitic. They also said it was a form of “collective punishment,” which is rich coming from a group that has ignored or applauded Israel’s decades-long collective punishment of the Palestinians.

Mayim Bialik is perhaps one of the most well known “celebrities” on the list. The former sitcom star and gameshow host infamously endorsed a children’s book entitled “Under Rockets Glow” where a young girl is indoctrinated to believe she is the victim and not the daughter of colonizers. A more apt name might have been “Baby’s First Genocide.”

Debra Messing is another. The former sitcom star embarrassed herself long before the genocide started by attacking progressive Democratic Black women for daring to challenge the conservative slant of the party. After Israel began its campaign of annihilation, she flew to the country on a “birthright” trip where she filmed herself blubbering over IDF soldiers as they prepared to carry out the Final Solution.

Some may find these criticisms too harsh. But there can be no forgiveness for celebrities who choose, even now, to support and defend genocide. None. As they shill for a regime that burns, bombs and starves hundreds of thousands of children, they deserve nothing less than our scorn and contempt.

Tremors in Magaland

Since the murder of Charlie Kirk, the Trump regime has made it clear that it intends to crush all dissent from the left. US Homeland Security Advisor, Stephen Miller, made the ridiculous allegation that the Democratic Party was a “domestic, extremist organization” before the shooting. After, he practically spat out venom when talking about using the full power of the state to “dismantle the left.” Those thinking these are idle threats haven’t been paying close attention.

But there may be one glimmer of hope. Maga is in disarray since the shooting. Prominent voices, including Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, Meghan Kelly have been raising questions about Kirk’s allegiance to Israel, with some alleging he was about to shift. Even before Kirk’s murder, Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Green were beginning to stray from the pack.

Just a day before his death, Kirk did an interview with the infamously smug and endlessly irritating genocide apologist, Ben Shapiro. He asked uncomfortable questions about genocide and ethnic cleansing to a visibly shaken Shapiro. This, and other instances, have created a conspiracy theory spiral in Magaland with some indicating they believed Israel was either responsible for or involved in the assassination of Kirk.

Make no mistake, Charlie Kirk was an odious man. His racism, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny and Islamophobia are on the record for anyone to see. But Israel has banked on unwavering allegiance from the American far right. Evangelical Christians, who make up a large portion of the Republican Party, have a cultlike devotion to the Zionist state, with many believing it is essential for the second coming of Christ. But for others in the far right sphere, particularly gen Z, this bond is beginning to fray.

“There’s rumors going around—maybe Mossad is a part of the Epstein files,” one young male student told Kirk at one of his university events. And he wasn’t the only one to raise these issues. Other students noted that the algorithms on their phones are different to that of their parents. Their feeds are an endless stream of horror and suffering in Gaza. And the fact that Netanyahu was the first political leader to post on social media asking for prayers for Kirk after the shooting has also raised eyebrows, with many of them asking why a foreign leader would be so invested in a far right, American podcaster. So much so, that he was aware of the shooting before even Trump knew.

Kirk knew that the “America first” crowd were tired of wars and foreign investments that cost too much. As its primary colonial asset, Israel gets the lion share of American foreign aid. And he felt the pressure from them, as well as the wealthy, pro-Israel donors who funded Kirk’s Turning Point USA. Even ultra-Zionist billionaire hedge fund manager, Bill Ackman, has been embroiled in this, with accusations of pressure and even blackmail attempts. Something Ackman has denied.

To be sure, it is unlikely Kirk would have changed direction on supporting the genocidal state in light of his political ambitions. But the fractures aren’t something to take lightly. As the American Empire declines and unravels, it becomes a churning mess of conspiracies, suspicion and paranoia.

All of these issues shouldn’t convince anyone that the Trump regime will change course. The killing of Charlie Kirk has provided it with its very own Reichstag fire, undoubtedly thinking it is a perfect distraction from the damning Epstein files and the genocide in Gaza that it wholeheartedly supports. It is feeling emboldened with small victories, like the recent sacking of popular, nighttime comedian, Jimmy Kimmel. But the regime is clearly shaken and fearful. It knows its fragile alliances are unstable and unreliable.

Whatever the regime does now, opposition to its cruelty and sadism must be paramount. Protests against ICE, deportations, concentration camps, attacks on vulnerable communities and the genocide in Gaza must not be thwarted by its threats. Fascist regimes create or capitalize on chaos in order to benefit from the confusion. Giving in to that confusion would be a fatal mistake no one could afford.

The End of Israel

The United Nations just confirmed what every person of conscience has known since the beginning or at least for nearly two years. That Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. It is true that the gears of international law grind slowly. But in this case the gears were impeded at every step of the way, even as Israel continuously broadcast its crimes openly.

No crime against humanity in history has been this well photographed, recorded or documented as Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians. No crime against humanity has been as loudly announced as Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians. What’s most striking is that this is the first known genocide in history where the perpetrators have provided most of the evidence.

Despite Israel’s smear campaigns and ongoing massacre of journalists, it is they, themselves, who have told us what they’ve done, what they are doing, and what they plan to do next.

From IDF soldiers parading around in Palestinian women’s lingerie that they killed or expelled, shooting toddlers in the neck, or assassinating medics, or blowing up hospitals, universities and bakeries, to Israeli media and political leaders openly inciting or calling for genocide. And all of this has only been possible because of Western support, chiefly the support and assistance of the United States.

Only the most sycophantic and obtuse refuse to see what is in plain sight. Those who hollowed out their very souls in exchange for a racist narrative, support a profitable grift, or reinforce devotion to an apocalyptic death cult. And there is literally no hope for any of them.

What comes next should not come as a surprise to anyone. Israel has already begun its spin, denying the obvious and attempting to deflect through outright lies. The US, its colonial benefactor which is now lead by a fascist regime, is doing everything within its power to destroy any opposition or dissent. There are many meaningful and encouraging developments, but the machinery of American Empire is still the most lethal and the most powerful. It will ensure that Gaza is completely erased and its people either annihilated or forcibly displaced. The rest of Palestine will be absorbed into the Zionist state.

There are a few other things that are true as well. In its fever of genocidal mania, Israel has destroyed any normal future for itself. Indeed, this is the end of Israel. It is being blacklisted and shunned, whether publicly or quietly. It no longer enjoys the unassailable image it once had, as European nations begin to distance themselves, threaten boycotts of Eurovision, divest billions of dollars of investment, and make Israeli vacationers feel unwelcome. And despite the sycophancy of its leaders, it has lost the next generation in the West. Like its benefactor the United States, Israel is rapidly descending from its pedestal in the most ignominious manner. Neither of them will ever recover.

This is of small consolation to the Palestinians, who continue to suffer unimaginable cruelty and horror at the hands of the Zionist state. But it is simply a statement of fact. One that both nations will learn the hard way in years to come.

The Fantasy that is Israel and the Erasure of History in Gaza

Right now, Israel is attempting to erase history itself. It is obliterating Gaza City. Demolishing what is left of its historic mosques, churches, cafes, schools, parks and neighbourhoods. Forcing its inhabitants to flee and killing anyone who remains.

A city that once welcomed Egyptian, Persian, Greek, Roman and Ottoman travelers is rapidly becoming a killing field of dust and ash. Without a doubt, this destruction of one of the world’s most ancient cities is by design.

After almost two years of relentless atrocities, Israel is now trying to sanitize the scene of the crime. Killing journalists is one of its tactics. Witnesses, especially those with journalistic training and integrity, tell the truth. And they are the biggest threat to the machinery of colonization. But erasing the history of a people delivers a blow that is even more devastating.

Early on, Israel blew up Gaza’s universities and libraries. It razed its grand boulevards, reduced its archeological sites to rubble and even bulldozed its cemeteries. There was no reason to do any of this except to demoralize the Palestinians. To inflict both a wound and an insult to its collective and shared memory.

From its inception, Israel has been at war with the truth. It invented a homeland in a place that already had a people. It used the real generational trauma of Jewish suffering in Europe and elsewhere to instill perpetual fear and victimhood in its population and taught them to be repulsed by anything that smacked of “weakness.” It built a state that saw its neighbours as alien. As inferior. As savages.

But Israel itself is a fantasy. It is a beach resort built on a mass grave in Tantura. It is a soulless mall erected over the stones of a once bustling souk in Jerusalem. It is a bland settlement sprawling over uprooted, ancient olive groves. It is non-indigenous trees planted over the ruins of ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages. Trees that now ignite in flames each year thanks to an angrier climate and the fact that they never belonged to that land to begin with.

Israel took notes from the cruelest pages of European and American colonial settler projects and it modernized it. It learned from the Spaniards who razed Mayan and Incan temples and built cathedrals on their foundations. It studied the British who locked Indigenous Africans in concentration camps where they were starved and tortured. It copied the Americans who wiped out the Buffalo knowing it would mean certain death for Native Americans. And, as all settler colonial projects, its racist ideology led to its logical conclusion in the annihilation of its Indigenous peoples.

There is no such thing as a democratic ethno-state, yet this is what Israel has wanted the world to accept for 80 years. In doing so, it unwittingly created a psychosis that has poisoned its society and driven it into the iron grip of genocidal mania. In fact, polls show that most Jewish Israelis support its government’s actions in Gaza, with many believing it hasn’t gone far enough.

But even as Israel carries out its Final Solution in Gaza, its image and connection to the world has been forever soiled. Some dolts will forever cheerlead its sadistic project and attempt to smear those who oppose it as antisemitic, even if they are Jewish. But Israel will never be accepted as a democratic state again. And on some level, most Israelis know this. Many of those who have traveled abroad in recent months have found this out.

This is of small consolation to the Palestinians who are now living in a hell that is only made possible by the support of the US and other Western nations. But memory is imperative. It is the cornerstone of democratic values and the only bridge to a future where everyone is afforded the same rights. The same dignity. If we lose it, we are bound to repeat this horror again and again.

There is No Greater Crime than Genocide

Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of Israelis took to the streets of Tel Aviv demanding an end to the war and for a ceasefire in order to release the remaining hostages. Unsurprisingly, the Netanyahu regime accused them of participating in “Hamas support riots.” It has become a running joke that anyone who opposes Israel’s genocide in any way, big or small, is aligned with or supporters of “Hamas.” Ms. Rachel, Greta Thunberg, Piers Morgan, Marjorie Taylor Green, the entire country of Ireland. This paranoid delusional list gets longer every day.

To be sure, polls show that the majority of Israeli society is in the grip of genocidal mania. It is a social landscape drenched in the racist ideology of Zionism and its attendant infrastructure of apartheid, which has been meticulously constructed over decades. This, along with impunity for its litany of crimes, has created a society that is completely out of touch with its own character. Dehumanization of the Palestinians has been woven into the DNA of the Zionist state. And despite Holocaust scholars, prominent human rights organizations (including ones within Israel) and the ICJ correctly calling out Israel’s genocide, most Israelis continue to think of themselves as the victims.

But while it is easy to be cynical about Israelis, it is also important to recognize that human beings have agency. They can change. And this protest, while a minority in the country, is a sign that cracks are forming in the edifice of Israel’s mythological image of it being the “only democracy in the Middle-East.” These Israelis are finding out that they too are subject to the same smears. But the propaganda, or hasbara, isn’t having the same impact that it once had.

This summer, Israelis have been finding out that they are not welcome when they travel abroad. Protests and other forms of shunning have happened in Greece, Thailand, Bosnia and beyond. And this has nothing to do with antisemitism, as some apologists would have us believe, but entirely to do with Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

While there is a long road to travel for these Israelis to understand this, it is not naive to hope that most eventually will. Of course, this is small comfort to the millions of Palestinians who are now facing annihilation at the hands of the Israeli state. They cannot wait for Israelis to have a change of heart, as they are bombed, burned, shot and starved.

Gaza has been utterly destroyed by the endless cruelty of Israeli bombardment. Tens of thousands of children have been slaughtered, with thousands more on the brink of death due to Israel’s policy of starvation. But the Palestinians who remain need our solidarity and commitment. We cannot afford the privilege of giving up when they continue to fight for survival. And when our own governments are the primary engine of this entire nightmare, it is our duty.

Therefore, the lion share of pressure must happen from outside Israel. It, along with the US (its primary benefactor) must be isolated. Cut off from all relations with democratic institutions. And other Western leaders must be pressured to immediately enact sanctions and implement divestment. Every tool must be used to stop Israel’s horrendous crimes, just as was done with apartheid South Africa. Only now, the stakes are much higher.

Genocide is the endgame for humanity. There is no greater crime. If it is allowed to continue or its enablers and the genocidaires who perpetrate it are allowed to get away without consequence, everything else will be rendered meaningless. Therefore, it must be opposed in every way possible. And people of conscience should demand nothing less than its complete demise.

The Plan for Greater Israel is no Longer a Conspiracy Theory

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently said in an interview that he feels “very” attached to the idea of a “Greater Israel.” This crackpot “vision” is for Israel to conquer not only historic Palestine, but parts of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and parts or all of Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

This used to be a conspiracy theory. But it isn’t anymore. It is out in the open for the world to see. And he isn’t alone in sharing this “vision.” Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has also peddled the idea of a “Greater Israel”, along with many other far-right Israelis.

This past week, Netanyahu announced his plans to take over all of Gaza, something that Israel had already done in practice through a complete blockade of the enclave in 2007. But the world’s biggest concentration camp has been almost completely razed to dust by continuous Israeli bombardment over the last two years. And Israel intends to corral its remaining population into smaller and more squalid camps, for them to await deportation or worse.

In the occupied West Bank, the plan to annex the remaining Palestinian territories is already underway. In fact, pogroms, harassment, vandalism and murders of unarmed Palestinians committed by Israeli settlers is a daily occurrence, and all with the protection of the IDF.

So, it is clear that the words of Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders should be taken seriously. They have boldly announced their genocidal intent for two years. Israel has bombed Lebanon and Syria throughout that time, even as it carries out a genocide in Gaza. Now they are telling us what the potential next step will be. Whether or not they can pull it off isn’t the point. If it is implemented, it is the instability and untold suffering for millions of people in the region that should concern us.

It should not be surprising if all of this reminds us of the plans of another regime, in another country, on another continent, in another time… 1939. And we all know what happened when that “vision” was made into a reality.

A Note on Genocide Apologist, Bill Maher

Last Friday night, professional troll and genocide apologist, Bill Maher opined on Gaza. This is nothing knew. And his stance seldom deviates from the “Israel is the only democracy in the region” line. This time, Maher again made no mention the copious crimes of the IDF or that dozens of reputable human rights organizations, including within Israel, have agreed this is a genocide. Instead, he concentrated on “evil” Hamas and the vital importance of “protecting Israel.”

Earlier this summer, Maher described queer activists who oppose Israel’s genocide as “crazy, disturbing and sick.” His fans really yucked it up at that one. Because ridiculing one vulnerable community who is standing in solidarity with another vulnerable community makes for good comedy in the United States. And Maher has cashed in big on this rancid facet of American culture, even as the Trump regime has stepped up its vicious attacks on queers, immigrants and Palestinians.

This time he bemoaned the likely next mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, because of the candidates criticism of the Zionist state. Maher thinks Mamdani might take the city with the world’s second-largest Jewish population in a disastrous new direction, ignoring the fact that the candidate had wide-spread support among the city’s Jewish community.

Maher isn’t in the dark. He has seen the photos and videos of skeletal, burned or blown up children. He has seen the crimes of the IDF as they post it online themselves. He has read about the “humanitarian aid distribution centres” and the thousands of Palestinians who have been murdered by Israeli snipers and drones seeking food. He has seen the footage of an almost completely flattened Gaza. He just doesn’t care. His racist hatred of Palestinians has become a cash cow.

Earlier this year Maher shocked his fans by sitting down to dinner with the fascist dictator in the White House. He gushed about how personable and “humble” he was. And more recently, he has agreed with Trump’s attacks on universities. But his supposed “pivot to the right” is only surprising to his feckless American liberal fans. The ones he has bamboozled for years.

Maher is not an expert on geopolitics. He is no scholar. He is a D-list actor who’s credentials include one cringeworthy appearance on Murder, She Wrote. His “success” comes down to his snarky, low-brow comedy schtick that is supremely American in its penchant for punching down. Like so many Americans, he takes pleasure in the suffering of the marginalized, and it has been very profitable for him. He does not intend to be “canceled” like his colleague Stephen Colbert, so he is sloppy-kissing the ring of power to ensure his smug face remains on the air.

But like every mealymouthed, bootlicking sycophantic before him, Maher will end up in the dustbin of history when his useful idiocy becomes tedious. And this is at least one thing in these dark times to look forward to.

The Straw that Broke the World’s Back

For nearly two years people of conscience have been warning about the trajectory of Israel’s assault on Gaza. Begging people to pay attention and speak out while being accused of antisemitism for daring to oppose an obvious genocide.

Those of us who have been writing about human rights long before this were not fazed. We understood this cynical, baseless and insidious tactic of the apartheid state. We knew the difference between Judaism and Zionism and that conflating them is the real antisemitism.

Now much of the media and several Western governments are beginning to realize what they have been funding, supporting and whitewashing. Genocide, the very worst crime against humanity. But for tens of thousands of people, it is too late. And what broke the camel’s back?

The carpet bombing of apartments and entire city blocks wasn’t enough. The biggest population of child amputees in the world wasn’t enough. The largest mass murder of journalists in any conflict in history wasn’t enough. The rape and torture of surgeons, physicians and nurses wasn’t enough. The shooting of toddlers in the neck by Israeli snipers wasn’t enough. Leaving a young man with Down’s Syndrome to die alone in fear and agony without his family wasn’t enough. Detaining healthcare staff and leaving new born babies to die in incubators wasn’t enough. Murdering little Hind and the paramedics coming to help her wasn’t enough. Countless genocidal statements from Israeli politicians and media figures wasn’t enough. Scores of TikTok videos posted by IDF soldiers documenting their crimes wasn’t enough. The total destruction of bakeries, desalinization plants, shelters, hospitals, cafes, tents, ambulances, universities, cancer treatment facilities, farms, kindergartens, mosques, churches wasn’t enough. And for a very long time, mass imposed starvation wasn’t enough.

Now that Gaza is in stage 5 for famine, many are speaking out. And this is welcome. But the arms keep flowing. The blockade is still in effect. And there have yet to be sanctions on Israel.

When will that turning point be reached? Or have we come to a point where the world finally acknowledges the worst crime of the 21st century and shrugs its shoulders?

Kenn Orfanos, August 2025

Gaza has Sealed the Fate of the West

Recently, two of the leading Israeli human rights organizations (B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel) concluded that Israel was, in fact, committing genocide against the Palestinians. This is a conclusion already reached by the world’s leading scholars on genocide, as well as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. How many more voices does it take for Western leaders to take the necessary action to stop this? How many more scholars, and physicians, and human rights organizations?

As Gaza enters the 5th stage of famine, one manufactured and implemented by the Israeli regime with the support and assistance of the United States, we are witnessing the complete hypocrisy, shallowness and corruption of Western institutions and norms. Even though there have been weak public relations gestures, like certain nations recognizing a Palestinian state, the money and weapons are still flowing.

In fact, while fascism grows in the US thanks to the Trump regime, the bloodlust becomes more obvious and depraved. From repugnant ghouls like Senator Randy Fine posting tweets welcoming the murder of Palestinian children to the fascist monster-in-chief, Donald Trump, demanding Palestinians express gratitude for food they either never received or are shot at while trying to obtain. The far right end of the political class is displaying its sadism in real time. It was always there, but the mask has now been obliterated. And thanks to the feckless arrogance and stupidity of Maga, its reputation will never be restored.

But there are cracks in the edifice of Israeli impunity. Polls show wide disapproval of the Israeli regime and its horrendous crimes. Even far right politicians like Marjorie Taylor Green are denouncing this genocide, outdoing even the supposedly left “squad” member, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The successes of Zohran Mamdani, who gained popularity in one of the most Jewish cities in the US, has been stunning given his open condemnation of Netanyahu and Israeli atrocities. And polling of younger Jewish Americans shows a clear break with support for the apartheid state.

In addition to this, Israelis are beginning to feel the pressure. They have been turned away from a Greek Island and at restaurants in Thailand due to growing anger and disgust at a society that seems to revel in burning, bombing and starving tens of thousands of children. One thing is apparent, most of the world has turned against Israel, even if their leaders are slow to action.

Israel has been one of the most important colonial assets of the American Empire. But as the list of its crimes grow by the day, that asset is becoming a liability. One which the US may not be able to afford for much longer. Especially, given the precarious state of American institutions and its badly damaged economy. It has already lost billions in tourism, as Trump’s disrespectful and belligerence toward other nations grow. As stories of concentration camps and violent border control agents and lawless ICE thugs mount. As it continues to support the genocidal state, its public face will only become more sullied.

But none of this helps the millions of Palestinians now. At this stage of the famine, it is too late for tens of thousands of children, elderly and sick. They will never come back from this. Now, the remaining population, when not being bombed or shot by Israeli snipers and American mercenaries, are being corralled into concentration camps, awaiting death or forced deportation. Israeli politicians dream of a riviera, replete with luxury hotels, marinas and restaurants. But it is more likely that it will eventually replace Gaza with hideous settlements, as seen across the occupied West Bank. Homes devoid of character and devoid of the Indigenous population. Fascist communities full of racist fanatics.

Gaza has sealed the fate of the West, even if the repercussions are not felt for decades. The damage has been done. There is no way to undo what has been witnessed by billions of people, both in the West and in the Global South. No way to forget the scale of this evil or the suffering. It will stay with us all. Whether an apologist, an apathetic nothing, or a person of conscience, the cruelty meted out on its people will impact every single relationship, interaction and transaction we make. It will define us as a society for centuries. But it has also been a clarifying moment.

We now know, beyond the shadow of a doubt where our leaders, institutions, media and public figures stand when it comes to the most heinous crime against humanity on the books. And for that, we should be grateful. Because we know that those who have either cheer leaded this on or stayed silent to the bitter end will never oppose brutality against any of us. We know they can never be trusted again.
